Unemployment looms around most of us as we near graduation. Even if you’re having high grades in school while still studying, it is often not enough to land you a job. Sometimes, you may end up as student-turned-unemployed. How much more, if you have low grades while still studying? The more you lose the chance.
But, there’s another factor that determine’s one’s success. That’s hard work. You may say, I am hardworking, I study really hard! That is not enough. What I want to stress out here is that doing hard work even in summer vacations. Do hard work even out of school. How can you do this?
Beginning your first summer vacation in your freshman years, try to begin to regularly have OJT(On the job training) or student internship every summer. Sure most of you will say, “How can I be hired when I still have zero knowledge because I’m first year”. Yes, it is usually true. But many companies accomodate freshmen level OJTs. Maybe you don’t have to do specialized tasks yet, but doing some errands, maintenance, things that can be taught easily, you will still be useful to a company if you’re hard working.
The benefits of this is that, as early as freshmen years, you already have industry experience, not to mention the personal connections you obtained. Continue doing it until you graduate, and you will have a very intricate network of colleagues that can easily help you out when you’re on the job hunt. It’s better than sleeping comfortably all summer, doing nothing, like a sloth.
You want to spend time with your family? No problem, some companies accomodate OJTs good for one month, then the rest of the summer can be spent with your family.
For higher years, it’s not too late for you too. So better hurry. It is fun anyway.
Have a good day!
